National Archaeology Week 2006 - Vikings

We had a wonderful day being Vikings on 23rd July 2006. We all dressed up as Vikings and learned all about Viking life. We made bars of viViking soap and carved them with runes. We also found out how to write our names in Viking runes. We made some Viking food and shields. A small reconstruction of a Viking longhouse was constructed with a turf roof to show how Vikings made their houses.

We were visited by Regia who are a 'living history society'. They go to great lengths to create authenticity and make all their own Viking equipment and clothes. They brought their Viking settlement and showed us how the Vikings lived illustrated by weapons, embroidery, woodwork and grinding flour.

Thanks to Regia and all of the BYAC helpers who made this a great day out.
