Moseley Bog

We visited Sarehole Mill and Moseley Bog (inspiration for Tolkien's Lord of the Rings) and learned about activity in the area from the bronze age 3,000 years ago to the late 19th century.

First we walked from Sarehole Mill along the mill race to where it rejoins the River Cole. We then climbed out of the valley and looked at some ancient sand pits before exploring the wooded Moseley Bog.

The site of a burnt mound thought to have been used for heating stones for a bronze age sweat lodge. Many cracked stones remain as evidence for this activity.
